Mon. First Day with the Profs

My first day with the profs was great. We walked all through the midlevels of Hong Kong. The Escalator is great. It is a gigantic stair/escalator that slices through the city as a fast way to move from the top to the bottom of the mountain. It is surrounded by shops and restaraunts and is a really fun place to walk....and gives your legs a great workout!!!

The buildings are so tall here....forget New York! Hong Kong is an incredibly dense city. There are so many buildings and cars and people. It's intense.

Religion is intertwined with city life here. There are temples next to highrises, and shrines along the sidewalks.

We have to carry tissues in our backpacks....you are lucky if there is toilet paper....you are lucky if there is a toilet!!!

The shops are incredible. They are packed with merchandise....from funerary goods (photo), to lawnmowers (who has a lawn in Hong Kong?), to who knows what else. You name it, there is a store for it.

We went to the dried goods market. And a CLOSED indoor market (PU) with a floor dedicated to fish, meat, and POULTRY (bird flu anyone?).... I have had the most olfactory experience of my life today. seriously. hahaha
